Maui County had 19,879 vacation rental rooms in 2007, an increase of 1.6 percent. The Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism, which publishes an annual count, said most of the increase came from new time shares at North Beach, or Kekaa, on the north end of the Kaanapali Beach Resort.
