Illinois State Flower: Violet
In 1907, Illinois schoolchildren voted the purple violet as state flower. The General Assembly approved a bill to make it official in 1908.

Illinois State Flag
The Illinois State Flag was adopted on July 16, 1915 by both houses of the General Assembly. In 1969, they voted to add the word ILLINOIS under the Great Seal of the flag.

Illinois State Bird: Northern Cardinal
Illinois schoolchildren selected the cardinal as the State Bird in 1928. The General Assembly made it official in 1929.

Illinois State Seal
The Great Seal of Illinois was first used in 1788. The State Seal has been recut more than once since 1868, but Tyndale's design has remained essentially unchanged.

Illinois State Fish: Bluegill
Adopted in 1986, the Bluegill is the official state fish of Illinois.

Illinois State Quarter
Released on January 2, 2003, the Illinois quarter depicts a young Abraham Lincoln within the outline of the state. A farm scene and the Chicago skyline appear on the left and to the right of the state's outline. Twenty-one stars border the coin, signifying Illinois as the 21st state to be admitted into the Union.
